1.  Why do the headlight lenses oxidize?

  • ANSWER: Most headlight lenses are made of plastic. The combination of daily exposure to vehicle exhaust, UV sun rays, harsh chemicals and road debris results in pitting of the surface as well as an actual chemical alteration of the plastic lens. Plastic clouding occurs much the same way that metal rusts. This oxidation must be removed.  The Janvil Product removes this oxidized outer layer and reveals a new "Fresh" layer of plastic.

2.  How long will my headlights stay clear?

  • ANSWER: Results will vary depending on the environment that the headlights are exposed to.  Since our product basically removes the damaged layer and exposes a new layer of plastic, it will take about the same amount of time for the headlights to oxidize as they did when they were new. The Janvil product will help to hold off the oxidation process to an extent but it will not permanently prevent future clouding and oxidation of your headlights that occurs due to weather, driving conditions and time.  Depending on driving conditions and the area in which you live, a quick application of the JANVIL product will keep them looking their best.

3.  Does your products chemically reverse the plastic oxidation?

  • ANSWER: No!  No product can. Some headlight products on the market claim that they can reverse the oxidation process.  This is a "snake oil" approach to headlight restoration.  What they are offering is either a harsh chemical solvent solution which will melt the plastic surface and severely weaken the lens or they will have you paint your headlights with a clear coat paint.  Painting your headlights with clear coat is just like painting your fingernails with clear nail polish.  It will look good for the short term but it will soon chip and peel off.  This is why they state that their product application is only good for a month or two.

4.  My headlights feel really rough.  Can I use sandpaper?

  • ANSWER: You may lightly wet sand your lights until smooth with a 1000 fine grit sand paper (wet) to take the edge off before applying any product. Follow the normal directions for the product thereafter. This wet sanding is a simple procedure to do before any product application and it will speed the time required to restore the lens and improve the final clarity on severely damaged headlights.  Moderately damaged headlights will no require any sanding at all.

5.  Are JANVIL Products complicated to use?

  • ANSWER: Not at all.  If you can hold a cloth, you can restore your headlights.  The Janvil Plastic Restore products do not require any complicated equipment or hazardous chemicals to use.  It is just wipe on and buff off. The Janvil Plastic Restore system includes our JANVIL Heavy Duty Plastic Scratch Remover, Light Duty Plastic Scratch Remover and Plastic Shine. The Plastic Restore system is designed to work as a 3 part system to remove scratches, haziness and abrasions from most plastic and acrylic surfaces. In order to restore your headlight correctly and obtain the best results, you will need to use the full 3 bottle kit. Full instructions are included!

6.  Why can't I just use Glass Cleaner or household cleaner?

  • ANSWER: Many glass cleaners contain ammonia and harsh alcohols, which will rapidly advance the deterioration and yellowing process of plastic lenses by removing the plasticizer oils from the plastic.

7.  Does it need to be repaired from the inside of the lens?

  • ANSWER: No.  Extreme weather conditions, rock chips and other road debris, contamination from car wash and detailing products all cause damage to the exterior of the lens. The unique Janvil formulation will clean, restore and protect the lenses.  It is no advisable to attempt to clean the inside of the lens assembly.

8.  Can I apply JANVIL to my taillights?

  • ANSWER: Yes. While damage to your taillights may not be as obvious as the damage to you headlight lenses, Janvil will clean, restore and protect your taillights.

9.  Will this product work on all headlights lenses?

  • ANSWER: Yes.  As long as the headlights are made of plastic and the seal has not been compromised.  If you notice water and moisture inside of the assembly or visible cracks or holes in the surface, the headlights should be replaced.

10.  Can Janvil help restore Light Bars on Emergency Vehicles?

  • ANSWER: Definitely! We have had many great success stories reported to us about how local governments have saved a ton of money restoring weathered looking light bar assemblies on their emergency vehicles and police cars.
